SNSD ♥ The New Young Trendsetter

Girls' Generation has always been better known as SNSD, which stands for So Neo Shi Dae, its literal Korean translation of the English name. Amazingly, they consist of exactly 9 girls! Thanks to a few friends, I have started to pay attention to this popular South Korean girl group recently. Their music has a rhythm that makes you want to get up and dance to it. The lyrics are rather catchy- yes, even though I definitely don't know much of their language. The girls aren't exceptionally beautiful- but together, they exude young power and energy.

Who's your favorite girl?

Have you ever wondered what actually contributes to their contagious charisma? Smooth dance moves, great smiles, fun lyrics.... There are more. As a performer, one of the most powerful ways to present yourself to thousands of fans is through the outfits you wear. Most of you have already known. In a girl group, these girls can't simply put on what they feel like wearing or what corresponds to their moods. These garments have to relate to one another and create the ultimate X-factor that would drive all mortals wild.

Being very sharp towards the current fashion culture, one of the first things about SNSD which successfully caught my attention was their clothing! Whether its in their music videos or public occasions, their outfits never fail to give you the boom! These garments are obviously not revealing. However, they still bring out the youngness in these girls. This should tell us that you don't actually need to show a lot of skin to give the message that you're still young and beautiful.

First, let's look at what they wear in the making of their music videos!

Run Devil Run

The girls are clad in black- which almost always represents evil. Let's go back to the title of the song, it's Run Devil Run.

Without too much eyeliner, mascara and black eyeshadow, they do not look overly gothic. Gothic dressing without gothic makeup- perfect to maintain a certain amount of glamor without spoiling the atmosphere during Hallowe'en.
Then, here's the white outfits, which create a sharp contrast with the black ones. Personally, I often find combination of the angel and devil concepts very intriguing. A little thrilling, too. Maybe that was what the producers had in mind?

Gee

The outfits in this music video is more casual. Good for one-day outings with friends in the mall or the beach. Overall, SNSD hasn't lost their spark in the music video. They still give out positive energy!

♥ Oh!

The girls are cheerleaders in this music video. Their top and bottom are probably what some consider perfect for an outing with BFFs. The pink boots might be too flashy for an outing. Unless you love being in the centre of attention.

Oh, I love those caps too.

Genie

The girls are your most enchanting navy officers in the music video. While it's sure great for performers or waitresses, I think you would agree that they sure aren't for outings. Maybe parties?

Second, let's see what do the girls wear for the red carpet!

The girls arrived at the 24th Golden Disk Awards (the South Korean equivalent of the Grammy) in 2009, all clad in white minidresses. Simple and elegant- love it.

And the following year....

A completely different look! Perhaps to correspond to Run Devil Run?

They were presented the Daesang (Artistes of the Year) Awards. The picture on the left shows them during their acceptance speech.

Some more visual tidbits...
